"The Lost SIM Card"

A decade and four must have passed now, I had a Bengali maid for whom all other languages, except Sylheti Bengali, were Greek and Latin. Yet, everything used to be fine when hubby was around.

One day, in the absence of hubby, I misplaced my Airtel SIM Card (reporting a lost SIM Card, applying for and getting a new one was a long annoying process then). I tried hard to locate it all alone. I searched up and down, down and up again. After a couple of failed hours, I was sure I needed to talk to her and get her help. I called her and lucidly explained to her the lost item, showing with my thumb and forefinger its miniature size. I was pretty sure my explanation was clear enough (Why not? I explained with all the gestures under the sky!)

She then set out for the search. I too, continued. After some 40/45 minutes of the silent search, she called out, "Mami! Yay, I found it there, there near the garbage. I remember, I threw it this morning, not knowing."

Not only I, everything else in my room on that day was suddenly, so happy. I decided I must buy her a new beautiful pinkish salwar suit the next day. Oh, my lovely maid! How I appreciated her! I then asked her to bring it.

Lo! With that air of a child running to its mother expecting her applause for doing something 'great', she came running to me- all happy smiles. She handed me the 'SIM Card' which actually was a price tag of the T-shirt bought the previous day.
